Health Personnel in the United States, 2000 to 2015 Objectives: The key objective of this study was to: describe in detail the key health professions serving Americans as of 2000, identify key issues facing each of the professions, and project the supply and demand for each professions out to 2015. Program Dates: October 2000 - May 2004 Staff: Paul Wing (Program Manager), Sandra McGinnis, Edward Salsberg*, Michael Dill*, Mary Beth Rowell*, Courtney Stapf* Components: This study examined the current and future supply of and demand for some 30 health professions in the U.S. The specific professions include: Physicians, Physician Assistants, RNs, Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, LPNs, Certified Nurse Aides, Home Health Aides, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Chiropractors, Laboratory Technicians and Technologists, Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Opticians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants, Radiation Technologists and Technicians, and Public Health Professionals.
